Success – a simple, 7 lettered word which can drive the finest of men crazy! Before you start reading this article, relax. Close your eyes and think: What is the meaning of success for you? Is it buying a house or a car? Is it doing exceptionally well in your career? Is it being famous? Is it making loads of money? Is it making lots of friends? Confused?? Lost?? Puzzled?? Don’t be.. its the same with everybody.

We all want to be successful people in life but we don’t know what is it which we really crave for? The meaning of success is as diverse as the countless cultures in a cosmopolitan society. You just have to give a little time to your inner self to understand what the meaning of success is, pertaining to your life. I don’t guarantee a sure-shot method but trust me, by the time you finish reading this article, you’ll at least have and idea of the true meaning of success, which will help you in attaining your goals!!

First of all, you have to realize that the most important thing in your life is Happiness and happiness is a state of mind. You’ll never find happiness if you keep chasing it. If you think you want to be happy, you will be happy. Similarly, if you think you’ll be successful, you will be successful. Its all about the perspective. You see the world through red colored glass and everything seems rosy. Use a black film to see the world, and you’ll discover that the world is a dull and dark place!

Once you are ready to face the world equipped with a positive mindset, ponder on the question: What makes you happy? Is it money? Appreciation? Friends? Career? Family? Don’t rush to find out the answer to this question as it’s the sole question which describes the quest of your life. Before you answer this question, think why it makes you happy? For example, if you choose money, ask yourself, why you think that money makes you happy? Is it because it leads to the achievement of all the luxuries and helps you lead a good life. Or is it because money can get you in the ‘Most-Wanted’ list of all your friends? The answer has to be honest. Even if you think it might make you look selfish or stupid, don’t manipulate your answer.

If you do so, you’ll always see yourself far away from the successful people, admiring them and not among them. In general, meaning of success is nothing but working sincerely towards the achievement of something which brings happiness into your life. When you have candidly investigated your psychology and self image, you will find that you have understood your personal meaning of success. You have discovered the ultimate truth which sometimes remains a mystery even to people who’ve been researching for their whole lives on the meaning of success.

Success is putting your 100% effort to reach your dreams, attain mental peace and spiritual gratification, being sure of what you want and having respect for yourself and your aspirations.

Success is to fight your fears and learn from your failures. If you lose hope when you fail and stop trying, you are indeed a failure.

But if you learn a lesson from your every failure, and even if you are not able to achieve your goals, you will be successful because at the end of the day you’ll be happy that you put all you efforts into it. Success is taking your dreams, adding a cup of hard work, straining out all the failures, mixing the lessons you learnt from your failed attempts, mixing a teaspoon of confidence and garnishing it with a lot of positive attitude.

I hope I have not confused you further with this. To summarize, success is not something you can chase and acquire, to find out the genuine meaning of success, you have to realize your priorities in life, your achievements, what you’ve been searching for and how you can be happy.

Keep in mind: Success is not the key to Happiness, but Happiness is the key to Success. So, the day you identify your own mantra for happiness, you will be one of the most successful people in life.

There’s an age old saying which describes the meaning of success beautifully: “Success is a journey, not a destination.”

Many people get totally confused to understand what success actually is. Is it a journey or a destination? Success is measured by the number of achievements you make. But the route which you follow to reach your goals is what actually matters. Think, can you reach a place if you want to skip the travelling part?

Just imagine, if I give you a minute and tell you to make a comparison between success and a journey, what would you come up with? I am sure, you’ll find a number of similarities. Success can very easily be compared to a coveted journey you would love to make during your vacation. Not getting the point? Okay, let me explain. Consider any place you want to visit dearly. Now when you make a plan to visit a place what you do? You get the geographical details of the place. Do a little bit of research like the culture of the place, the people, best months to visit, the tourist attractions, how to reach etc. Right?

After this planning, you pack your bags and start your journey. While you cover your journey you might encounter few problems like a flat tyre, delayed or missed flights and so on. Then what do you do? Turn back and decide not to go? Change your plans? Return back to your home and spend the vacation in your sitting room, watching Television? Sounds drab, isn’t it? I am sure you won’t do that. Instead you’ll carry on with your journey because you know that once you reach your destination, the troubles will soon be forgotten.

Similarly, success is like a journey. We all want to be successful like entrepreneurs, businessmen, industrialists. We all want to be famous. We all want achievements. So if you want to span the road of success, you must understand the meaning of success. Its just like deciding the place where you want to go. There are so many beautiful places in the world but why does a particular place charm you? Similarly you have to understand that there are a lot of things you can achieve but what is the most important to you. What you think can make you one of those successful people? Once you interpret your meaning of success, half the battle is won. Its very important because Unless and until you know where you want to go, you cant move ahead.

Now, once you have decided your destination, the next brightest thing would be to plan your journey and do the necessary exploration for it. Similarly, you have to sit back and do your goal setting. Your goals have to be in sync with the meaning of success you’ve discovered after questioning your inner self. Make a plan and be clear about how you want to go about to achieve your goals. Check out all the roads which lead to your destination and select the most feasible path.

After you’ve decided on a full-proof plan, pick up your bags and start moving towards your goals. Whatever problems come in your way, just whisk them away. Problems are there to make you wise. Be courageous. Be strong. Have a positive attitude. If you allow the failures to affect your plans, you’ll never be able to achieve anything in life. Failure is not a bad thing. Its nothing to be ashamed of. Infact failures make you stronger for your new ventures. The way you would not let a flat tyre affect your travel plans, don’t let failures feign a negative impact on you. Put a lot of hard work in whatever you do, and do it with a lot of sincerity.

Now when the major part is over, you’ll see that you are very close to your goals. You will understand that the meaning of success, what you interpreted at the beginning is crystal clear by now. You will also understand that the journey to your achievements is really important. Completing the journey is

attainment of the real success.

So friends, destination is important, but more important than that is the road you follow to reach your destination, the journey you cover to reach your goals. So, never ever commit the mistake of treating success as a destination. Remember, achieving success is a lifelong journey!!

Long time back, being born and raised in England in English literature class : I read a poem in my English Literature book which said: “Success is counted sweetest By those who ne’ev succeed. To comprehend a nectar Requires sorest need.”

The poetess had then moved on to describe a battle scene in which the successful people, after winning the battle, rejoice and bask in the glory of success. On the other hand, we have a man, who after losing the battle is lying in the battle field, awaiting his death.

One thing which really got me confused was: How can a person, who has never succeeded in life, understand the meaning of success? I even argued with my teacher saying that the poem was absolutely meaningless. After all, how can a person, who is a loser, understand the value and meaning of success? And my teacher answered by telling me that there are few things which cannot be explained. They can just be experienced with time. At that point of time, I therefore concluded that the poetess was a confused person who somehow got entangled in the intricacies of the meaning of success, and ended up creating an inexplicable poem. Little did I know that as I grow up, I will have to be sorry for my thoughts.

The day I tasted my first failure was the day I understood the true value and meaning of success. That was the day I understood that the poetess had beautifully described the meaning of success and its value through uncomplicated words and a practical example. That was the day I felt ashamed of my ignorance. That was the day I felt a strong urge to say a sorry to the poetess and my teacher for being naive. And that was the day I understood the meaning of success.

Are you having the same feelings I had as an inexperienced kid? Well, let me just make this clear by giving you some examples and explanations.

Consider an entrepreneur, who wants to make it big. He’s invested all he had into a business which he thinks has a lot of potential. Somehow, things did not work out well, and he loses all his money. On the other hand, we have another entrepreneur, who in a similar fashion, invested all his money into a business and the business took off well and now he is one among the well-known, rich and successful people. Who do you think knows the true value of success? The entrepreneur who lost or the one who tasted success in the first go?

Let us consider another example in which we take an instance from our daily life. Imagine a student. He has done his goal setting and planned how he wants to complete his syllabus. He’s worked hard for the whole year because he wanted to perform well in his examination. Somehow, he could not perform well in his paper. What is the value of success for him? What is the meaning of success for him?

Friends, the true meaning of success is understood only by people who’ve been failures at some point in their lives. A person who has always been in a win-win situation can never value success the way a person who has failed in his life does. For successful people, Success is just a small word which means achievements. For a loser, success can mean his life. He can do anything for being successful. A failed attempt makes a person work harder and forces him to put more efforts in his future endeavors.

A failure makes you realize the importance of success. It makes you understand how important achievements are in a person’s life. It gives you the strength to face the adversities of life. It makes you recognize your potentials, your drawbacks and your strong points. It helps you in analyzing what went wrong, and makes you learn from your mistakes. A failure is very important in the development of a balanced human being. A person, who has experienced both success and failure in his life, is the one who has understood the actual meaning of life. But this doesn’t mean that you start failing deliberately. If you are from the lucky lot who keeps winning all the time, thank your luck and be happy!
