> Jeff Olsen: Finding joy after loss

It’s a tragic, but hopeful story that Jeff Olsen tells in his new book, “I Knew Their Hearts.”
In the preface, he writes…
“If a drunk driver had run us off the road, killing my wife and youngest child, I suppose I could eventually have forgiven that person. If our vehicle had been tossed from the freeway by powerful crosswinds, I suppose I could have forgiven God. But if I fell asleep at the wheel, then it’s my fault. And what do you say to a man who feels responsible for the death of half of his family?”

What is the legacy that a successful Olympic bid can leave? As a former Olympian, Jeff Olson understands the movement as well as anyone. He shares with us his vision for a successful Denver bid in 2022 and what it could mean for health and well being locally and globally.

In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxMileHigh, where x = independently organized TED event. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

Near-Death Experiencer Jeff Olsen Speaking at Findhorn in 2015

> Near-Death Experiencer Jeff Olsen Speaking at Findhorn in 2015

Jeff Olsen experienced a horrific automobile accident in 1997 which inflicted multiple life-threatening injuries, including crushing both his legs. He had 18 surgeries and spent six months in the hospital. His left leg was amputated above the knee. The most devastating outcome of the accident was the loss of his wife and youngest son, both killed instantly. Overwhelmed by his own life-threatening injuries, Jeff had a profound near-death experience in which he met his wife on the other side, who told him he couldn’t stay and had to return. Having that glimpse into heaven gave him the courage he needed to carry on and care for his living son. He has since remarried and adopted two more sons. According to Jeff’s website, his greatest joy comes from being a husband and father. His mission is to assist people in consciously embracing who they are and the connection they share with others and the universe. Even without Jeff’s profound out-of-body and other mystical experiences, what he has to share with us and teach us about overcoming grief and guilt would be life-transforming in themselves. Jeff is a very humble, genuine and warm speaker and has been gifted with a high-degree of empathy and an ability to shine Light upon all our suffering.
