Are you among the small businesses and professionals who find that they just do not achieve the intended goals or they cannot complete their marketing plans? Marketing plans can fall short for a number of reasons. One common reason for this failure is the business marketing strategy and not the action plans.
There are five measures of a business marketing strategy that must be present if your marketing plan and your tactics are to succeed.
1. Shared goals with business strategy. It is absolutely necessary that you align your business marketing strategy with your business strategy. The marketing strategy needs to emanate from the business strategy. For example, if your plan is to grow your legal practice by promoting a focus on estate planning, it does not make a great deal of sense to advertise a focus on legal defense for juvenile delinquents.
2. Respect the budget. The budget sets the limits for your business marketing strategy. No matter what audience you need to reach or what product or service you are marketing, budgets define reality. You must keep things in perspective within those limits if you expect to meet your marketing objectives.
3. Comprehensive. Your business marketing strategy should outline all of your marketing goals, as well as the tactics you will use to accomplish them. It needs to encompass all of your marketing activities – traditional, internet, mobile, point of sale, etc. But it also needs to allow just enough flexibility to permit you to make some changes in order to take advantage of an unanticipated opportunity with a very high chance of success.
4. A sense of perspective. It is unlikely that you will be marketing a single product or service to a single, specific audience. A successful business marketing strategy will keep all tactics and campaigns in perspective to maintain a focus on marketing objectives.
5. Audience Determined. A good business marketing strategy will reflect significant research into the desires, needs and preferences of your target market. It will, then, use the tactics most likely to reach that audience where they can most commonly be found. It will reflect your understanding of the message they need to hear and the communication medium they prefer.
If your business marketing strategy can pass these five tests, you will be well on your way to crafting a winning marketing strategy that will achieve your goals and grow your business in the strategic direction you want the business to go.
Because the theme is very wide and to make it interesting to you, I want to tell of my own path to pick the best home based business ideas. Everything started about my will to find simple ways to make money online.
I had no online marketing experience but strong experience from the traditional marketing, which was of great help.
I set a target to make $ 300 per month after costs, which sounded reasonable. But there was one problem, how to do it without a detailed plan for my home based business ideas.
Okay, I said to myself, think simply according to KISS method. The solution was to follow those, who had already made their own internet business opportunity as a success story.
Another big choice was to select affiliate marketing as my starting point, because there the merchant offers the full package even to a starter.
So I started to run my home based business ideas as an affiliate, using my banners, doorway pages, email series with autoresponder and joined a marketing forum to get help and new ideas. Soon I realized, that I get lots of new, working home based business ideas, which were my own ones.
Now I could test these ideas, especially products, for a home based business and keep the best ones and skip the bad ones.
I built a model for regular testing and my site for home business ideas started to look more and more personal, which was very important thinking about my own home based business opportunity brand.
During the process I found out that SEO and the article marketing were my things. I had now two important elements for the future of my home based business ideas, the strategy and the way to run and to test it in practice.
I got new ideas with a constant flow, new products, new text ideas for my home based business ideas site, new and more effective ways for promotions.
I found out that the learning happens, when the time is right but I had to learn that I have just to run promotions for my home business opportunity. Action was everything and new internet business ideas came, when the time was right.
For instance, I realized one day, that the keywords were extremely important for the site traffic. This idea led to action and I add more long tail keywords into all of my articles about my home based business ideas.
I also skipped low demand ones and concentrated bigger traffic keywords. Little by little the traffic started to grow, so this finding was right.
I thought my blog keywords also in a new way after I had tested several different kind of keywords. I found out that the blog rank best with small, low demand and long tail keywords, which started to bring a nice and regular traffic.
These were very good experiences for my home based business ideas. I now understood that the learning process never ends, because the Internet changes all the time.
This meant that I had to follow the gurus regularly and to find new, skillful marketers to follow.
All what happened, meant that the amount of strategic choices decreased and that I could just make my strategy to work better with new home based business ideas.

Are you tired of watching your business marketing plans fail? There is no secret formula. I’ve studied every imaginable kind of business marketing plan. I’ve discovered that there are five elements in a successful business marketing plan.
Virtually every business marketing plan failure I have seen misses the mark on one of these keys. You will need to incorporate all five of the keys in a way that allows them to support and enhance one another to achieve maximum results.
1. Goal orientation. Your business marketing plan should be created around the marketing goals you want to achieve during the period covered by the plan. This keeps all activity focused on results and provides a basis for measurement of achievements.
2. Reach potential customers where they are. Putting ads here and there and sending somewhat random promotional efforts into the world does not mean the right people will ever see them. More than ever before, you must go to where your customers are if you expect to have any hope of getting their attention.
3. Parts of the business marketing plan need to address potential customers at each stage of the buying cycle or decision making process. People need different information at each stage of the process. Your marketing plan needs to systematically move each prospect through the process.
4. Coordinate everything in the plan. Plan and time the release of each piece of your marketing plan for maximum effect and in a way that allows various pieces of the total plan to support and reinforce each other. Be clear about the customer need your product or service can alleviate, and keep that focus.
5. Continuous improvement. Analyze, re-test, adjust, update and refine. Every ad and every e-mail message will meet with a different level of success. The only way your marketing will improve is by testing, analysis. Then learn from your mistakes and make appropriate changes.
